Review:
IncrediMail is an easy to use e-mail client. It is sharp, colorful, and fully loaded with lots of paper, e-cards, sounds, and even animation. It is simple to use and simple to configure. It makes e-mail fun. And, best of all, it's free.
It is easily downloaded; and installation is a breeze. Just answer a few, simple questions and you're ready to start experiencing e-mail on another level.
New accounts are easily configured. The program does most of the work for you. Enter your e-mail address and IncrediMail sets the mail sever settings for you. It receives mail into any folder you set for it. There's a built in address book, spell checker, and auto signature insert that you can include a personalized "hand written" signature. The typing sounds are pretty cool; although you don't have to have them on.
Got at least one account set? Good, then you're ready to start having fun with e-mail. There are literally hundreds of stationary to choose from. You can add some custom sounds. And, as if that weren't enough, throw in a little animation for good measure.
IncrediMail is not without its demons though. Aside from little anomalies one might expect from an adolescent program, it has one fault that is particularly disturbing to this writer: the company.
Although IncrediMail is a free program it comes with a price. There is a small, unobtrusive, advertising window built into the program. A small price to pay for such an attractive email client. And a price worth paying.
The company offers a premium version which rids the program of advertising and a tag at the bottom of outgoing messages encouraging the viewer to download IncrediMail. I didn't mind the tag; because I use IncrediMail and some e-mail clients don't receive the wonderful IncrediMail format well.
But the company doesn't warn purchasers that the license they just bought is only good for one computer. If you have a problem that requires you to reinstall the program you need to write to them and ask them to reset your license key. A practice we found extremely inconvenient. IncrediMail was slow to respond to our requests whenever we needed to relicense.
I don't have a problem with companies that feel the need to protect their software with online license registration. But we feel the consumer has a right to know before the end of the purchasing process. And, for this reason I do not recommend the purchase of IncrediMail.
But, get the program. You'll never think of e-mail the same way again. As a matter of fact, you'll start making up reasons to send as much e-mail to as many people as possible. Stick with the free version though and have fun.
