I've managed to get a worm on my computer. First a message from windows stated I had spyware, then a message came up that I had a Trojan virus. I ran both Spybot and McAfee (making sure of updates). Spybot found three spyware programs after which I "fixed" and then it said I had no problems. McAfee found no errors. After automatically shutting down the computer, I booted it up again and a message came up that I had a worm. I don't understand how this could've gotten past my spyware/virus protection, but what do I do now?

Help! I was surfing the net and a message popped up stating I had spyware. I closed my browser and the blue background of my desktop had turned green with a message in the middle stating:" YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED! System has been stopped due to a serious malfunction. Spyware activity has been detected. It is recommended to use spyware removal tool to prevent data loss. Do not use the computer before all spyware is removed." I updated and scanned with Spybot and McAfee, restarted my computer and the green desktop returns with the same message mentioned above. In the taskbar a message comes up to click on and Windows will sell you a $50 program to get rid of spyware. Also a message pops up about a trojan program. Will system restore fix this. What should I do?

Thanks, it worked I think. Now when I hit the powerpoint presentation, the powerpoint viewer pops up again, but when I hit "decline," nothing happens and it won't open the presentation. To try to get rid of the viewer, I went into "All Programs" to check if it was there...and it is, but when I go into "Add or Remove Programs," I can't find it anywhere. Also the icon for Outlook Express has changed back to what it was previously, but when I click on it, it puts up a message stating "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook." What would you suggest next?

I thought I left a post here yesterday, but today its not here, so here goes again. Here's my problem: I've had microsoft office on my windows xp for some time now without problem. A couple of days ago, I tried to open a powerpoint presentation, I did not author, but I've always had access to and a popup came up asking to approve of deny powerpoint viewer. Stupidly I said yes and now the presentation only shows up in viewer and I can't make changes to it. Additionally when i present it, I minimize it and show some other things, but I can' t do that now either. So I went to add/remove programs, but couldn't find powerpoint viewer, so I removed something I thought contained viewer and now my outlook express is gone with all my saved mail. Is there some way of going back to a week or so ago and start over? I know there is something with the registry, but I don't want to screw up things worse. Help!

Here's my problem: Yesterday I went to open a powerpoint presentation that I've opened many times before (I'm not the author of it, but I was able to access it through powerpoint 2007). A pop-up came on the screen asking to approve or deny powerpoint "viewer." I stupidly said yes. Now I can't access the presentation, but only to view it, whereas I could make changes to it before. I have no idea why it did this. I'm thinking some update from Windows added it to my computer. I installed microsoft office 2007 a while ago and never had a problem. So to make matters worse, I went into "add/remove programs," but could not find "viewer." So I removed some microsoft things that I thought it was contained in. Now I lost my outlook express and all the mail contained within it. Is there some way I can erase my screwups and start over?

Hello Chris

You may want to review the following Micorosoft knowledge base article for trouble shooting this issue. It covers group policies and stand alone environment.

Hello John

You may want to check your boot designation. Both drives may be designated as the prime boot device. You might compare the entries on both drives by using the MSCONFIG utility. As you know with SATA drives there are no jumpers to designate slave or master.

Was this supposed to be a dual boot scenario?

I ran into a problem with a trojan that after removing it with spysweeper, I still have some problems. Mainly, if I press alt+ctrl+del, I get the message: Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator. I am the administrator (only person) on my standalone desktop. I run xp sp2 and up until I downloaded the trojan I used firefox. I can't use firefox any longer even after deleting it and reloading it on my system. Help if you can.

I am trying to install a 320 mb Seagate SATA hard drive on my computer. I already have and IDE hard drive as my master. I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP 2, Version 2002. The processor is an INTEL Duo Core processor on and ECS Motherboard. For whatever reason, when I have both hard drives hooked up, the computer goes as far as giving me the information screen, ie BIOS, and then goes blank and goes no further. When I unplug the SATA drive, the computer starts up just fine. I was able to install XP on the SATA drive and it works just fine as a stand alone. Any ideas? Thanks
